Day 9: Vusanje to Skala
Day 9: Vusanje to Skala
Monday 3 August 2026, 13.1km
Guest House Kollata to Bungalows Prokletije
Today was a planned rest from hiking. All we had to do was get from the village of Vusanje to the village of Skala. Three of us took a taxi with all the gear, and stopped at the halfway town to buy breakfast makings – muesli and milk – for the next day or 2.
Apparently Skala is a very popular start point for hiking in this National Park. Cars are constantly arriving or departing along the very narrow bitumen road. Our accommodation is in chalets close to where the road ends, in a parking area, and where tomorrow’s track into the mountain begins.

Summer vacation has brought many families with young children and we thought it would be wise to book a place for dinner. Our favoured restaurant had a big booking and told us to come back after 8pm so we relaxed for the afternoon, and in the evening trundled over to find a table. On arrival, however, we were told that they had run out of food and the kitchen was closed. As we retraced our steps, we tried another place which told a similar story. Fortunately we found one venue that hadn’t yet closed and were able to provide food for all of us.

Tomorrow will be a big day and we will breakfast early so that we can start the ascent into the mountains before it is too hot.
