Day 10: Pralognan-la-Vanoise to Refuge de Péclet-Polset
Tuesday 18 August 2026, 14km, 1080m up, 30m down

Last night was spent in an air-bnb room at Sylvie’s place outside of town. In the morning we were served breakfast – muesli with home-made yoghurt, fruit salad, home-made seed bread with butter and 3 home-made jams including milk jam. Robert also had an omelette, so we headed out well fed for our 2nd last day of hiking.

First we traipsed through the town and, on our way bought a baguette and small quiche from the boulangerie. Then it was a clear path along dirt/gravel road, through forest and then past farmland to the start of the ascent up the road winding around the Roc de la Peche. We had a view of Petit Mont Blanc which was just appearing out of wispy cloud, and then we pushed on for the quite steep climb of >1000m ascent, to finally reach Refuge de Péclet-Polset before midday.

After a well earned lunch and cokes, we explored a short walk to see a view of the milky Lac Blanc, and then returned to take advantage of the showers while the water was still hot. Tomorrow we have one fairly short climb before a long descent back to Modane, our starting point.
