Third Breakfast!

April 28, 2022 Uncategorized 1 Comment

Day 31: April 28, 2022
AT mile 395.3 to 416.0
Hiked: 20.7 miles / 33.3 km
AT miles hiked to date: 19.0%

We started hiking this morning with full bellies (the 3rd breakfast was as good as the previous 2) and full hearts (knowing that Jo was in good hands – good doctor, 2 caring brothers, fabulous neighbours and friends).

The way was gentle and the sky was clear with warm sun and cool breezes.  We meandered beside creeks and a faster flowing river and passed a lovely waterfall.

We met up with a few other hikers including Old Scout who has caught us up after having his tooth seen to in town and Paul – another Aussie hiker from Adelaide who started the trail the same day we did.

In the afternoon the track seemed to bounce up and down but no long severe ascents like the sections before. We passed some smoke in the next valley, then heard the hum of circling planes and, as we set up our tent we saw a helicopter fly over carrying a massive ‘bucket’ of water to drop on the fire. Since that we’ve heard no more activity in the sky so assume that the fire is under control.

With an easier gradient today we have made good time and noticed on the way that we have passed the 400 mile point.

The 3rd breakfast looks more like a very generous lunch!
