More in the Great Smokies

April 14, 2022 Uncategorized 1 Comment

Day 16: April 13, 2022
AT mile 183.7 to 197.2
Hiked: 13.7 miles / 22.0 km
AT miles hiked to date: 9.0%

Our night sleeping in the shelter was pretty much how we expected- lots of snoring to keep us awake, early morning mice activity and then the ultra early leavers who get going before sunrise. However it was good to enjoy the camaraderie around the fireplace in the evening.

We left about 7:30 and walked in cold and windy weather. We thought it might rain but it didn’t and now we are in camp the sun is actually shining. Rain is forecast for tonight and tomorrow.  Our plan for tomorrow is to hike the three miles to Clingmans Dome then mostly downhill to a highway crossing where we will hitch into Gatlinburg and stay in a motel. We are already planning what to buy for dinner.

    Phew!
You’ll be glad to get clean and really dry after all that dampness and slipping and sliding!
Hope you get some better weather soon.
