Another cold day

April 8, 2022 Uncategorized 1 Comment

Day 10: April 7, 2022
AT mile 110.4 to 125.4
Hiked: 15.0 miles / 24.1 km
AT miles hiked to date: 5.7%

The storm started later than expected – around 6 pm – but the light snow and the rain seemed to go on for hours. Despite that and the fact that the tent was pitched on a slope, we both slept reasonably well. We packed up a wet tent and started off around 8.30am. There seem to be more birds now – we often hear woodpeckers and we spotted 2 eagles soaring high above. We also spotted a couple of squirrels but they scurried off before we could get a photo.

After a long steady climb we came up to a road intersecting with the trail and found an open area where we had lunch and dried off our tent in the sun. At the top of that peak was the second fire lookout. This was an historic building of brick and from the top we had a splendid view of the countryside and the distant mountains.

We camped early, just past this shelter. We only have 11 miles to go tomorrow down to NOC where we have booked a room in view of the predicted snow tomorrow night. It is already very cold here at 5:30pm.

100 miles and 5%!
