Hiked today: 21.1 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan was to get an early start so that we could get in a good few hours before the sun was too hot. We had time for breakfast and were still on the road soon after 7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, we were expecting a long road walk, and again, we were pleasantly surprised by a trail which, for a good distance, took us through pastures beside the Pelorus river. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took a few drink breaks but made good time and reached Pelorus Bridge campground around 12.30. The food van was open and we bought and shared a serving of fish tacos and another of an amazing garden salad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The birdsong here is beautiful and we saw our first Tui here at Pelorus. We walked half of the distance with a group of 4 hikers from Ireland and enjoyed their company. We may see more of them in the days ahead although they hike a little bit faster than us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
