Day 41, Walking to Frankton
February 9, 2026
Arrowtown to Frankton
TA km marker 2705.7 to 2726.9
Hiked today: 23.2 km
Arrowtown and Queenstown are linked by a series of walking trails. After eating our muesli/yoghurt/fruit cups for brekky, we headed along. Again the morning was cool and cloudy but the forecast was for fine weather. We had no rain and the sun popped out later in the morning.

First we walked through the outskirts of Arrowtown, then through a vast golf course to where the path progressed around Lake Hayes. Leaving the lake we skirted a new housing development and found a cafe. It was only 11, but we each had a bagel and called it an early lunch.

On from there, we eventually followed the twin rivers trail, up over Old MacDonald’s Hill, then beside Shotover River and crossing it on the lower Shotover Bridge. Finally the track led us to Frankton Flats, through an industrial area and past the airport to our hotel.

Although the trail was mainly gravel roads or bike paths, we did see some pretty water views and, near Frankton, we had a view of the Remarkables – spectacular mountains, named because they parallel the true north-south direction.
