Day 48: even more crazy weather
Let me tell you that it is very hard to get going in the morning when you are cosy in your warmish sleeping bag and it is cold and raining outside, and you know that your planned 25 miles includes covering an unknown amount of snow drifts on the way to Timberline Lodge and Mt Hood.We got going by 7am but the rain turned to snow. We decided digression was the better part of valour and after 8 miles, when we crossed a forestry road, we started walking towards a highway. After about 6 miles we got a lift to the highway from a girl who had taken a wrong turn. OG found a hostel with rooms for $50 a night. It turned out the owner is away, but we were let in and have a huge house all to ourselves. Plenty of room to dry everything out.Tomorrow the weather is supposed to improve so we will get a bus up to Timberline Lodge and try again.
The wild flowers look amazing……bit wet though, so hope you are keeping warm. Glad you are travelling with OG, a lovely friend indeed……keep on trekking……..Always wanted to see Oregon.
I’ll assume that the ‘digression is the better part of valour’ was a clever pun and not a typo and say ‘Well played Ros & Rob!’ On the topic of the weather, I’m doing some vicarious shivering here in my warmly heated Canberra bedroom. The magpies and cockatoos are singing/squawking outside and I’m starting to think about making some toasties for our dinner. Still very impressed and enjoying hearing all the tales of triumph (and, I apologise, also the tales of disaster). Adventure on!
I had no idea the weather for your trip was going to be so bad. It’s good you managed to find that place for you to rest and dry out. Hope things improve soon. Love Geoff and Scott
No one said this would be easy, so props to your persistence. Keep the photos coming, yesterday’s pics were A+
You have my ultimate respect Rob and Roz. You are 2 amazing people doing this epic journey. Have just caught up with your travels such a great experience. Thanks for your blog it is a great read. 🙂 Take care and have fun Cheers Andrew
I love reading your stories, it is such an adventure. Don’t envy the weather and the being in a tent, but I guess it is all part of the adventure, and 8 miles is still a great job!
