We spent most of the day travelling from Bordeaux to Bristol (delayed Easyjet flight) then had the tension of not knowing whether or not we would get on the bus to Plymouth, which was also late and a had a queue of other delayed passengers who had already booked tickets (we hadn’t). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, we did get a seat and eventually got to Plymouth at about 8pm. And our accommodation was nearby and good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After investigating what there is to see in Plymouth, we ventured out early and wandered down to the shore to see the famous Smeaton tower, a famous lighthouse which was moved from the dangerous rocks where it was erected, to the grassy hill by the shore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plymouth is a historic port from where many famous expeditions have set out. Francis Drake, Captain Cook and Charles Darwin are featured in the Plymouth museum and we read that the Mayflower set out from this port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spent hours at The Box – a really good art gallery and museum. In place of honour stands Mildred (a life-sized recreation of a female woolly mammoth), but the other displays and exhibits were also amazing and entrance was free!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
