Day 10, Jun 23, 2024
From Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce to Cabane du Cap de la Baitch
22.3 km hiked, 20.8% complete<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The morning dawned overcast with light rain. Unfortunately during the night water got into our tent floor so things were a bit damp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s hike saw us climbing up the road from the auberge where we camped, to a timber logging road that cut across to the GR10. Then it was a long uphill to a Col on the border of Spain. We made good time but there were no views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down the track a bit we got to a Refugio and enjoyed a rest, an omelette and a hot drink. We also met up with some hikers that we had met before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then it was more climbing to a mist shrouded but spectacular pass with a tricky ascent, the highest elevation we have been yet. The landscape is limestone karst now that we have left the Basque country and are entering the high Pyrenees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We finished the day camped in a spectacular cirque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
