Here comes the sun
Day 11, Jun 24, 2024
From Cabane du Cap de la Baitch to Lescun
8.3 km hiked, 21.6% complete
We woke to a cloudless sky with the morning sun shining on patches of snow and the rocky faces of the mountains we had passed over yesterday. After a scanty breakfast of a few rice crackers each, we set off out of the valley down an easy path, which then led us through a beautiful forest of beech and conifer trees.
From there, we continued on slowly, owing to Pete having ongoing lower leg pain. We passed a lot of day hikers coming up the valley towards us, some of them with dogs out for a walk in the nice weather.
Although the gradient was an easy descent, once again we were hampered by long sections of deep mud. Our shoes are saturated with mud, and it seems pointless to even try to wash them at this point as every day we seem to experience the same problem.
By midday we had reached the town of Lescun, marking the end of that section. We had a delicious lunch of vegetable tarte (like a flan).
We had planned to continue on through but have decided to rest up and hope our various pains settle. We have found lovely rooms to spend the night and make plans for the next stage of our hike – on into the high Pyrenees.

Spectacular!
The mud definitely doesn’t look like fun though 😬
