Into town
Day 25, Jul 8, 2024
From Hourquette des Hounts-Secs to Bagnères-de-Luchon
14 km hiked, 45.5% complete
Last night, we were camped in a flattish hollow between 2 mountain peaks. Despite its seemingly sheltered position, the wind blasted intermittently through the night, disturbing our sleep. We were up and moving a little after 7 am and soon were at the top with good weather for the second day in a row and it was great to pull on dry socks and shoes for a change.
The descent this time was long but more gradual. As well as the usual hopping to avoid cow pats, today we had the inconvenience of a track diversion which was poorly signed, leaving us trying various paths to find our way through the forest.
We were glad that we had tackled a long climb yesterday because we still had 5 hours of walking today to get to the town of Bagneres-de-Luchon, where we have a room booked for 2 nights. This is probably the last big town that we travel through and we have some planning to do before we continue on, either further progressing along this trail or perhaps getting a taste of a different kind of terrain.

Difficult decision to carry on same track or different terrain. Watch with interest. Town looks interesting.
