The Continental Divide Trail is a long-distance hiking trail in the United States of around 4800 km \/ 3000 miles, running more or less along the Continental Divide of the country, through the states of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CDT is one of the three “Triple Crown” trails in the US, the others being the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail. We hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019<\/a> and 20% of the Appalachian Trail in 2022<\/a>. The CDT is particularly challenging because it is less well marked and less travelled than the other two trails. Although there is an official Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDNST) route, hikers rarely stick solely to that route and typically choose alternate sections based on snow levels, distance savings and scenic appeal. We plan to travel northwards from the “Crazy Cook” border monument on the USA\/Mexican border.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
