The main feature of this morning’s trail was mud. Despite the path being mostly flat or downhill, we made slow progress, and both felt very fatigued.

Due to recent rains and the snow melt, the trail was often wet with tacky mud and occasionally passed through marshy bog. In one such spot, I put my foot into mud covering shoe and the full height of my sock. We were due for a break, so I took the opportunity to rinse off my socks in a stream. They were now a little less muddy and by mid afternoon were nearly dry.

Unfortunately, after lunch, we felt the first drops of rain. Although it wasn’t heavy, it continued through the afternoon and evening. So, no dry feet after all. We are in our tent and listening to the rain and hoping everything inside stays dry.
