‘Ghost Ranch Alternate’ mile 11.1
Hiked today: 11 miles / 17.9 km

Well, we started along the Rio Chama with some great early morning views, and spent 4 1/2 hours road walking to our next ‘town’ night, which is at Ghost Ranch. This location has apparently been used in movies, but we don’t know the details. They do have a very interesting palaeontology and anthropology museum, and apparently, some important dinosaur fossils were recovered here.

We paid for a room and the cost included meals which are basically all you can eat. We have accessed the communal showers and completed our laundry. We enjoyed talking with fellow hikers Timber, Amethyst, Scoobie Snacks and Sunroof, including lots of reminiscences about the PCT.

Fortunately, the parcel we sent here was waiting for us at reception, and we now have all the food we need to get to Chama, which is our next stop. We hope to make it there at the end of the 5th day. Since we have paid for breakfast, which starts at 7 am, we will be leaving late and need to make up the miles on the other 4 days. We do carry an extra meal just in case we are unable to hike the planned distances.
