Memories of the PCT
Dawn with a full moon

The wind had died down overnight and we were up early, walking a good 3 miles in the still cool morning to cache 4 where we had breakfast. Unfortunately, I badly underestimated how much muesli we needed, so we are only getting a few mouthfuls each.

Breakfast at Cache #4

On we continued, the path taking us largely over flat desert terrain, with the occasional excursions into the foothills of the mountains.

As we are hiking at the end of the season, there are not too many other hikers around us and we passed the whole day without seeing anyone else. We made good progress and set up camp at the 5th and last water cache. It is still pretty windy and so we have pitched behind a low bush.

Nobody told us about the wind

How’s was it, sleeping cowboy style, from the night before?

Cowboy camping for me was a bit uncomfortable – bits of something kept falling on me from the tree we were under but it was convenient and meant we weren’t fighting with the wind to keep the tent upright – or kept awake by the flapping tent noise
