Hiked today: 16.5 miles \/ 26.6 km
AZT ascents today: 576m , descents: 1284m
AZT hiked to date: 1.2%<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last night’s camp was at 8077 feet above sea level, and it was cold! The water in our bottles froze solid. We slept in every bit of clothing we had. But there was no rain or snow, and we were able to get hiking by 6:45am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We descended down the mountain to rolling hills and hiked beside lovely streams, so it was easy to get the water we needed. Unfortunately our water filter appears to be blocked so we are borrowing from Gary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We reached a gate and encountered a forest parks employee who told us we would have to take a detour to avoid a controlled burn that they had just started. This involved some road walking but not much extra milage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are pleased today to have increased our distance and have arrived at a nice camp on a ridge. It is a lower elevation but still likely to be about zero at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
