It was good to chat to the family last night and catch up on their news. We slept well and were up early to eat a good breakfast before getting an uber ride, first to pick up Gary, and then on to the trailhead where we had left the trail 2 days ago. It was interesting to chat to our driver who had been a deputy sheriff for 13 years until he was medically retired because of injuries incurred on the job.
Back on the path and, at first it was a well graded and relatively easy hike into Sabino Canyon where we had a leisurely lunch under a shady tree beside a creek. In the afternoon the trail climbed steadily at first but then became very steep, winding between granite boulders up to a ridge top where we had spectacular views over the impressive mountains that surround us.
We set up camp as the sun was setting so it was a race to fetch and filter water, and cook and eat dinner, and get into our sleeping bags before the real chill of the night set in.

Hello Ros and Rob, Every time I go into your blog I keep humming the tune “Horse with no Name” in my head. You are keeping an amazing pace and I am enjoying all the photos. The Cactii are so fascinating. A “Gila Monster”?, had to look that one up, thought it might be something like our imaginary Bunyip. If you see one, dont get too close to photograph, one animal adventurer got bitten(they are fast), and described the pain as Hot Lava coursing through his whole blood stream!!! On, On Intrepid Travellers …..Beep! Beep! Kris
!!
Talk about “tigers for punishment” !
