Off trail

April 29, 2022 Uncategorized 2 Comments

Day 32: April 29, 2022
AT mile 416.0 to 420.1
Hiked: 4.1 miles / 6.6 km
AT miles hiked to date: 19.1%

Well, after much consideration overnight, having heard that Jo is not improving as quickly as hoped, we made the difficult decision to leave the trail and return home to support her recovery.

We hiked the 4 miles to a road intersecting the trail. Just 0.4 mile along that road was a hostel that provided us with a hot shower as well as a shuttle to TriCity airport. We will board our first flight towards home tomorrow. Today then is our last blog post. We enjoyed our time on the Appalachian Trail and thank all those who helped us along the way.

We dream of hiking the Continental Divide Trail next year and, if this comes off we will be back with the story of that Trail.

    Hi Moss and Compass,
We hope Joanna recovers quickly. We know that it wasn’t an easy decision to leave the AT and head home, but it was the right decision for you. Take care and safe travels.
