Devil’s Fork Gap

April 23, 2022 Uncategorized No Comments

Day 23: April 20, 2022
AT mile 289.6 to 311.0
Hiked: 21.4 miles / 34.4 km
AT miles hiked to date: 14.2%

Although it was very cold last night, the condensation in our tent had not frozen so we know the temp was not below freezing. The wind, though, was very cold and blew pretty much all morning as we felt like the climb would never end. We did enjoy trail magic just after starting – oatmeal biscuits with dried apricots and almonds. They tasted freshly made and had been left in individual paper bags, sealed in a container with written instructions to take one each with a blessing for our day!

We enjoyed clear skies and a great view from the ridge top of Big Butt Mountain. The mountain tops today required some fun navigation amongst boulders which was a nice change.

Someone had left a 300 written in stones beside the trail and we have passed the 300 mile mark today with our longest day on the trail so far.

We feel a sense of achievement as the morning uphill hike was tough.

Into week 4
